We work on batteries (great energy, poor power), we work on supercapacitors (great power, poor energy). Now we also work on hybridizing them to get extra energy density while keeping high power… and much longer durability.
As part of project NEST on Nanowires for Energy Storage a European Patent has been presented by CSIC and CEA researchers on oxide-coated Si-Nanowires as improved electrodes for micro-supercapacitors in combination with salt-doped ionic liquid electrolytes.
